June Balt Midrash

Thursday, June 12, 2025 16 Sivan 5785

7:00 PM - 8:30 PMPeabody Heights Brewery

Join us for the final Balt Midrash session at Peabody Heights Brewery!

Topic: Choseness

The Torah teaches that God has chosen the Jewish people as a holy nation and a treasured people. What does it mean to be ‘chosen’? What rights, roles, or responsibilities might that give us, and how might we understand choseness in a pluralistic society? Does this concept make us uncomfortable or is it exactly what is called for in this moment?

Cost: $18*

*The cost of each session will cover a catered Glatt Kosher dinner and a drink. If the cost makes participation prohibitive, please contact Asella at asella@bethambaltimore.org

Spearheaded by pillar institutions within our city, Balt Midrash gives Jewish young adults (21-40 years old) the opportunity to gather for deep, meaningful learning across Baltimore. You will learn with Rabbi Tyler Dratch - Beth Am Synagogue (Conservative), Rabbi Etan Mintz - B’nai Israel (Orthodox), and Rabbi Andy Gordon - Bolton Street Synagogue (Reform).

Balt Midrash was inspired by the century’s old foundation of Jewish learning, the Beit Midrash, where our community comes together in a boisterous and loving space to learn Torah. Meeting monthly at venues across Baltimore City, rabbis from each organization will facilitate meaningful text study on various topics, such as commandedness, halachah, and holiness. We will learn in chavrutah (pair learning) to allow all participants the chance to meet each other and build strong relationships.

Proudly funded in part by the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Fund for the Enrichment of Jewish Education.

Upcoming Session: June 5th. Location to be announced.
